How To Get From Bangkok To Koh Chang? Bus, Transfer, Flights

Trat Airport is the airport used by visitors who prefer to fly to Koh Chang, Koh Kood or Koh Mak rather than travel by road from Bangkok. However, as of December 2009 there was a more comfortable way to travel from Bangkok Airport to Ko Chang: the new bus line # 392 starts bangkok to koh samet from the airport bus terminus (make sure to take a free shuttle from main airport to airport bus terminus) at 07:30 and returns from Koh Chang at 12:30.

They offer both VIP air-condition bus (1,005 baht) and simple AC bus (754 baht) from Chiang Mai to Bangkok Tickets can be purchased the same day of travel but it’s best to buy them at least a day in advance, particularly if it’s during a weekend or Thai holiday.

Other government and private bus operators, that usually start from a bus station in Bangkok, will only make a quick stop at Suvarnabhumi Airport’s bus terminal and even stop a few times along the route for lunch and dropping off passengers at many locations, before unloading all passengers that are heading to Koh Chang, as well as their luggage, at the beginning of the pier in Laem Ngop on the mainland.

The Cherdchai Private Bus company night sells seats on a first class airconditioned night bus that leaves Ekamai at 11.30pm and arrives in Trat town around 5am the next morning but it cannot be recommended as the bus was crowded, the airconditioning was almost non-existent, the toilet stank of urine and the bus itself was filthy.

Be careful too that if the Cherdchai ticket booth at Ekamai charges you for a ferry ticket to Koh Chang as the ferry ticket is overpriced and puts you on a ferry to Centrepoint Pier, which is a 45 minutes trip compared to 25 minutes if you take the ferry to Ao Thammachart Pier.
